LAHORE – Excise and Taxation department cancelled Sunday’s (today) and of December 25 holiday to meet property tax target set by Punjab government, said an officer of Excise and Taxation department on Saturday.

 He said that they were already working very actively to meet target and so far they had achieved 51 percent of the target whereas by the end of December 2012 only 60 percent was supposed to be achieved. He said that on Saturday Excise officials sealed about 40 properties situated on Jail road, Railway station, AnarKali, Neelagunbad and Davis road areas. An excise inspector said that among the prominent properties sealed included, Badees Hotel, Davis Hytes, Shah Taj Hotel, Anarkali Plaza and received thousands of rupees from the owners of the buildings.

 He said that sealing of the bungalow of film star Meera was also done. “Though we have started charging one percent surcharge on late payments of property taxes but even then citizens were making payments late” said an officer. He said that advertisements were published in newspapers for early payments of dues and warnings were issued about confiscation of properties, and even arrest warrants of owners in case of non payments.
