Former PM Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that elections would not be postponed by creating law and order problem in the country.

Addressing a press conference here in Bahawalpur on Sunday, Gilani said that if anyone thinks that elections would be postponed by acts of terrorism or target killing, he is misguided.

The former Prime Minister said it would not be in the interest of the country and democracy to postpone the elections. He was confident that the elections would be held on schedule.

Gilani termed the assassination of Bashir Ahmad Bilour is a national tragedy saying it was a big loss for the country.

He said that the PPP wanted free and fair elections. He stated that poll rigging was done in the past to defeat the PPP. Some forces are opposing the creation of new provinces, but they would be defeated, the former PM said.

He said the party Manifesto would be decided at Party’s executive meeting at Naudero on 28th December.

About the appointment of Ahmad Mahmood as Governor, Gilani said the role of governor is not to strengthen the party but it is an administrative office.  He said the new Governor is a clean man and his father had also served the people of Bahawalpur.
