SWAT – Three terrorists were killed in a gun battle with security forces in Sardazai Banjot area of Swat, officials said. The trade of fire took place at Friday midnight, leaving three terrorists dead, they added.

In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relation said residents had informed about some unidentified miscreants patrolling in the area. As a security forces team followed them, the militants opened fire at it coming out of their hideout. The strong gun battle, ensued in the Valley, ended up in killing of all the three militants.

Later, the security forces handed over the bodies of the terrorists to local police. But, they could not be identified till the filing of this report. `

Staff Reporter from Peshawar adds: Two terrorists were killed and several others wounded in an exchange of fire with a police party when a group of militants attacked a check post with rockets and heavy arms in Zakhel area on the outskirts of Peshawar late on Friday night.

Police officials said more than 50 militants stormed the isolated check point with heavy weapons and pounded it with rockets from different sides before a police party repulsed the attack with full might. The exchange of fire continued for hours as police reinforcements were called in, the officials said, adding that the situation was difficult to understand in the pitch darkness. Witnesses said that heavy gunfire reverberated throughout Zakhel area.

The check post was badly damaged, a senior policeman said, adding that terrorist deaths might rise as several militants were reportedly wounded in the pitched gun battle. He said luckily the police force remained safe.

Reports said that the militants had arrived on a car.  Another official said the police post had been established to protect a small dam which was jointly manned by the Frontier Constabulary and police.

In another incident, armed militants attacked Riaz Shaheed police post Friday midnight. However, a police party retaliated with force and made militants to escape from the scene.
