VEHARI - A rift among the PML-N Vehari leaders is touching its zenith also creating differences among the party workers ahead of general elections.

The rift erupted between MNA Tehmina Daultana and Saqib Khurshid, the former parliamentary secretary and candidate for PP-236, when Muhammad Hussain TMO Bungash appointed on the suggestion of Saqib, was replaced with Shahid Iqbal Baboo on the suggestion of Daultana. However, Hussain has got a stay order from the Lahore High court against his new appointment.

The leaders are also struggling to get party ticket by defeating each other. Tehmina wants Afzal Khan khichi in place of Naeem Khan Bhabha to be the candidate for PP-237. On the other hand, former Punjab Assembly speaker Saeed khan is also making efforts to get party tickets for the same constituency. The rift has landed the local PML-N workers in hot water and it may benefit PML-Q candidate Chaudhry Tahir Iqbal in the general elections.

Strike against killing of anti-polio workers observed: The District Health Department workers have observed a strike against killing of six health workers during anti-polio drive in Karachi and Peshawar.

Hundreds of health workers included Tahira Saleem, Naheed Ghulam Rasool, Tahira Nadeem, Saeed Kanwal, Azra Altaf and Asma Masood took out a protest rally in front of the Press Club.

They were chanting slogans against the government for not taking security measures during the anti-polio drive.

Speaking to the participants Tahira Saleem said that "such attacks deprive Pakistani's most vulnerable population - especially children - of basic life-saving health interventions."

"We're concerned for the safety of front-line workers. They are the true heroes," she said.

She said that there was no police escort for the polio teams when the incident occurred.  She said that the raising fears for the safety of workers immunizing children against the crippling disease.

Woman slaughtered to death: A 28-year-old married woman was slaughtered to death here the other day.

Reportedly, some unidentified people entered the house of Muhammad Azam when his wife Sumera Bibi was alone.

They stroke her neck with a sharp edged weapon and fled away after locking the house from outside.  After sometime her relatives came and they broke the lock to enter the house. They found Sumera was lying unconscious in injured state.

She was taken to Gujrat for treatment but on way she succumbed to injuries.

The City Police have registered a murder case.
