PESHAWAR - The KPK Health Department on Saturday launched fourth round of Sehat Ka Insaf Programme in 77 union councils of Peshawar whereas 3,382 teams of health workers administered more than 6,35,000 children oral polio vaccine.

The fourth round was earlier scheduled on Sunday but carried out on Saturday due to security concern. Tight security steps were taken to avert any untoward incident during the ongoing awareness campaign regarding eight childhood disease in Peshawar. The district administration completely banned the ridding of motorcycle while around 3,000 personnel of police were deployed for protection of the polio vaccination teams.

For immunisation of anti-polio drop, more than 3,382 teams have been constituted in the fourth round of Sehat Ka Insaf Programme, including Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Razakar (volunteers), lady health visitors and other health workers. Whereas, more than 1,250 health hygiene kits, including soaps, towels, and water gallon, were also distributed among 3,000 targeted families in 77 Union Council of the district.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Health Shaukat Yousafzai inaugurated the fourth round of special anti-polio drive at Hujra of MPA Fazl-e-Elahi here on Saturday. On the occasion, PTI activists, workers and a large number of notables from various constituencies of Peshawar also attended the inauguration ceremony.

The health official said that the awareness has been created among a large number of families through Sehat Ka Insaf programme in Peshawar, regarding various childhood diseases, and are ready to vaccinating polio drops to their children.

The Sehat Ka Insaf being launched by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and health department to carryout vaccination against nine childhood diseases, including polio, diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, Hapatitis-B, Meningitis, pneumonia, measles, and Tuberculosis, which will be continued till April 21 in the district Peshawar.

For the campaign, a sum of Rs20 billion has so far been allocated, a complete package under which more than 12,500 free kits would be distributed among 3,50,000 families that would protect them from nine disease. More than 7,54,000 people would be targeted to create awareness among them about nine childhood diseases.

Talking to media person, the KPK Minister for Health said that the government would launch special campaign for elimination of polio, where the campaign was not carried out under the Sehat Ka Insaf programme.

The minister on this occasion administered anti-diseases drops to the children and distributed "Insaf Sehat kits" and pamphlets to create awareness amongst the public against dengue. He also announced Dispensary for the union council-26 and said that all the union councils would be facilitated with basic health units, as it is the right of their poor people.

He assured that despite law and order and other challenges, the campaign would be continued successfully and they will leave no stone unturned in this regard.

The minister said the KPK government wanted to end polio because it was preventable through vaccination. The children would be administered vaccines for all diseases on Sundays only and the teams would get full security, he said. He observed the child and mother mortality ratio is very high in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which will be covered up by launching such initiatives in the future as well.
