KARACHI - Another activist of Awami National Party was shot dead in Baldia Town here on Saturday evening.

The incident took place near G-7 bus stop in Baldia Town. Police officials said two armed men riding a motorcycle shot Zar Badan, 40, multiple times. The injured was shifted to Civil Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. The motive behind the incident has yet to be ascertained.

On the other side, three people were killed and another critically wounded in a road accident on Saturday evening in Steel Town. The victims and the injured were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. Police officials said two children were also among the victims. They said the victims were travelling in a car when a passenger coach, coming from the wrong side, hit their car on Link Road, Steel Town. The victims have yet to be identified. The driver of the passenger coach was managed to escape.

Meanwhile, police booked a groom Adil when the participants of the wedding opened aerial firing in rejoice. Police later released him after the family staged protest.

The incident occurred in Firdous Colony area of Gulbahar. Upon hearing the gunshots, extra contingent of police reached the wedding site and took the groom into custody. Following his apprehension, score of wedding participants including the groom’s family members gathered and staged protest over his detention. They demanded release of the groom, however, police later released him.

SHO Iqtidar Alam said the groom was taken into custody following the violation of ban imposed on aerial firing. He was later released after a warning.

Separately, score of people associated with the Pakistan Oil Tankers and Owners Association staged protest at Shirin Jinnah Colony, of Boat Basin area. They were protesting against the police’s failure to arrest the culprits behind the killing of their comrade. The protest also caused massive traffic jam in Shirin Jinnah Colony and its surrounding areas.

The protesters claimed that the police have failed to arrest the culprits behind their comrade’s killing despite passage of a couple of weeks.

 However, extra contingent of law enforcers reached the site and dispersed the protesters. They assured the protesters for their full cooperation.


A man and a woman were wounded during a clash between the two groups of gangsters in Lyari on Saturday. Police officials said the members of both the groups – Uzair Baloch and Baba Ladla on Saturday clashed with each other. Besides resorting to indiscriminate firing, they also fired rockets and hurled hand grenades, particularly in Dhobi Ghat and Nawa Lane areas.

As result, two passersby Farzana, 30, wife of Abdul Latif, and Muhammad Rehan, 40, were wounded. Law enforcers reached shifted the victims to Civil Hospital. They also raided the hideout of the notorious gangster Asif Niazi in Dhobi Ghat area, however, Niazi and his companions managed to escape from the scene. Police and Rangers later apprehended one dozen suspects from the area and took them to undisclosed location.
