RAWALPINDI - Lawyers on Thursday came down hard on their leaders for not taking solid and practical measures to fortify their current movement for the restoration of pre-November 3 judiciary. In a meeting of District Bar Association (DBA) Rawalpindi held here on Thursday, the speakers mostly young lawyers on this occasion urged Supreme Court Bar Assocaition (SCBA) President Ali Ahmed Kurd and former president Aitzaz Ahsan to take bold and practical steps for lawyers' movement instead of merely issuing statements. The meeting was held by the newly elected office bearers of the DBA in connection with their routine protest and boycott of the court proceedings every Thursday. A speaker advocate Raja Mudasir Awais said it was due to Aitzaz Ahsan that they could not stage the sit-in in front of Parliament House on the conclusion of Long March last June. "Kurd and Aitzaz would not be permitted to play with the sentiments of young lawyers any more as they are already suffering financially for the last two years owing to their struggle for the reinstatement of the judges," he maintained. Samina Jadoon advocate, a former Punjab MPA of PML-Q said the long march plan should be sent to the leaders of the legal fraternity making them sure that no deviation would be tolerated this time from the plan. Former vice-president SCBA Chaudhary Ikram said the proposed March 9 procession would be peaceful but it would jam the Islamabad administrative machinery. He said they wanted to send a message to President Asif Ali Zardari and the federal government that their policies were not for the best interest of Pakistan. Newly elected President DBA Taufiq Asif said that all the decisions in the bar would be made collectively as they were united for their cause and warned no one would be allowed to use the movement for the personal benefit. President Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) Rawalpindi Sardar Asmatullah said that the lawyers were not ready to compromise on their demand. "Deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhary is the real chief justice for lawyers as they are united on this point regardless of their political affiliations," he added. They lawyers also finalised their programme about attending Justice Iftikhar's address to Punjab Bar Council in Lahore. Later, the lawyers brought out a protest rally at Katcheri Chowk and castigated the government for delay in return of deposed judges. The protestors also condemned Israel for brutally killing unarmed Palestinians.
