LAHORE - Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi has decided not to accept the board's nomination of him as chairman of the bids committee for auctioning Pakistan Super League (PSL) rights.  "I am grateful to the Board of Governors (BoG) for trust and confidence in me especially since I have personally worked hard to revive the idea and project of PSL, but I do not wish to get involved in financial matters and contracts", said Sethi.

Sethi is currently a member of the Board of Governors of the PCB and honorary chairman of the executive committee of the board, which functions purely as an advisory and non-decision-making body. He is scheduled to take over as President of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in July 2015, another honorary post.

PCB CLARIFIES COMMITTEES’ STATUS: The PCB BoG in its 33rd meeting here Wednesday formed three task-specific limited period committees (PSL bid, model constitution for districts and clubs and media committee to formulate media policy).

The status of these committees is distinct and separate from three permanent Board committees – Executive, Cricket and Grassroots. The PCB management keeps setting up such committees every now and then to perform a task and these report to the Chairman and are dissolved when the function stands performed.

Similarly, these three committees too shall automatically dissolve in the next four to six weeks after completing their assignment. PCB’s permanent committees are only three: Executive Committee (Chairman: Najam Sethi; Members: Subhan Ahmed and Badar M Khan), Cricket Committee (Chairman: Shakil Sheikh; Members: Iqbal Qasim, Intikhab Alam, Zakir Khan and Haroon Rashid) and Grassroots Committee (Chairman: Prof Ijaz Faruqi; Members: Gul Zada, Javed Zaman, Haroon Rashid, Mrs Shaheen Khan). And the disciplinary committee, illegal bowling action committee, grounds committee and umpires evaluation committee and match observers work under the aegis of cricket committee.

Najam Sethi has already excused himself from heading the PSL bid committee owing to personal reasons, with regard to which a separate press release has already been issued. His replacement shall be named in due course by PCB chairman Shaharyar M Khan.
