KARAK - Six persons were killed and nine others seriously injured when a passengers van carrying Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from district Bannu to Tall area was plunged into a deep ravine in Zorkandao area of Tehsil Banda Daud Shah on Thursday.

Police sources informed that the driver of the passengers van lost his control over steering due to brake failure in Zorkandao area of Tehsil Banda Daud Shah and the vehicle fell into a deep ravine on Kohat-Bannu road. They claimed that four IDPs of North Waziristan Agency identified as Mola Jan son of Malay Khan, Zar Kalam son of Nazar Khan, Malal Khan son of Ach Kan and Hakeem Khan son of Nasir Khan were killed on the spot and two others identified as Nawab Rehman son of Muhammad Ayub and Fazlullah son of Rahmatullah succumbed to their injuries at a hospital.

The dead bodies and the injured were rushed to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Banda Daud Shah and after initial treatment the injured were referred to hospital in Kohat and Postgraduate Hospital Khalifa Gul Nawaz Bannu.

The nine injured were identified as Noor Islam son of Arsala Khan, Mir Wali Khan son of Zar Wali Khan, Zarbat Khan son of Niazbat Khan, Muslimeen son of Hajat Khan, Arjanullah son of Abdul Muslim, Dilawar Khan son of Jabbar Khan, Hakeem Khan son of Zareef Khan, Rohullah son of Shah Muhammad and Baseerullah son of Mirjan.

The Banda Daud Shah police soon after the accident started rescue activities in the area and shifted the injured to the hospital. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has expressed deep sense of grief over the loss of precious human lives in a road accident at Banda Daud Shah area of Karak.

He, on receiving the sad news, immediately contacted the district administration of Karak and asked it to declare emergency in nearby hospitals and start rescue work on emergent basis. Deputy Commissioner Karak Shoaib Jadoon in next moments informed the chief minister that he was himself supervising the rescue activities on spot of the accident along with police, local administration and rescue workers. He said the injured persons and dead bodies were shifted to the hospital while all-out cooperation and guidance is also extended to the affected families.

Meanwhile Pervez Khattak has also expressed immense sorrow on traffic accidents in various parts of the country wherein a Karachi to Peshawar-bound coach rammed into an oil tanker at Kashmor whereas Mansehra to Karachi-bound passenger bus collided with a truck at Talagang, killing and injuring so many persons. He in his separate condolence messages expressed heartfelt sympathies with the grieved families. He prayed for eternal peace for the departed souls and early recovery of the injured.
