Islamabad - Survey has been carried out with the help of Google Earth for ensuring provision of gas facility to all those villages falling within 5km radius of the gas field.

Managing Director Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), M Arif Hameed informed the Senate Standing Committee on Petroleum and Natural Resources here on Thursday that it would cost Rs2.5 billion to provide gas facility to the remaining villages falling within areas of the radius.

The Committee met under the chairmanship of Senator Muhammad Yousaf and was attended by senators Dr Muhammad Jahangir Bader, Abdul Nabi Bangash, Rubina Irfan, Tanveer-ul-Haq Thanvi, Hamza and Nawabzada Saifullah Magsi.

The Committee was also briefed about those villages where gas pipeline network is to be laid. Senator Abdul Nabi Bangash said that areas of Tehsil Tal and Hangue should be provided gas facility as some of the areas have been falling within the limits of the radius. Managing Director, Sui Southern Gas Pipelines Limited, Khalid Rahman informed the Committee that survey has also been carried out for Jhal Magsi for provision of gas through Jhal Magis Gas Field. Senator Nawabzada Saifullah Magsi said that after the 18th Amendment, the gas requirements of the producing province should be fulfilled on priority basis.

 Senator Dr. Muhammad Jahangir Bader said that due to increase in population, the country has been facing the shortfall in gas. He said,” We have to think as nation for reviewing our priorities for giving a bright future to the coming generation.” The State Minister for Petroleum & Natural Resources informed the Committee that the ministry has been focusing on gas projects in Gawadar, Nawab Shah, expediting expansion work of the gas pipeline networks, and local production of gas for overcoming the shortfall.
