QUETTA - Two men from the Hazara community were gunned down in targeted killing while two passersby also got injured here on Monday.

Two armed persons riding a motorcycle opened indiscriminate firing on a cab when the driver and passenger were boarding it.

As a result, both driver and passenger received fatal bullet injuries and died before being shifted to hospital.

Two passersby also got injured and were shifted to Civil Hospital.

Meanwhile, some 50 members of Hazara community staged a protest demo at Meezan Chowk close to the murder site.  They were raising slogans against government and police for their failure in arresting the culprits.

AFP adds: The attack was mounted on busy Iqbal avenue in the southwestern city, the capital of Balochistan province where the surge in sectarian unrest has killed scores of Shiites.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility. Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, a militant group officially banned by the government in 2002, usually claims responsiblity for attacks on Shiite Muslims.

The province bordering Iran and Afghanistan is also rife with militancy and an insurgency waged by nationalists demanding political autonomy and a greater share of profits from the region’s natural resources.
