LAHORE - Punjab Health Secretary Hassan Iqbal has directed the officers for the appointment of an evaluating officer in each district and tehsil headquarter hospital to examine the performance of the Extended Programme of Immunization (EPI).

Chairing a meeting of EPI directors and senior officers at the General Health Directorate on Monday, the health secretary directed officers to avoid submitting wrong information. He said there was a chance of mosquitoes’ reproduction at a large scale due to heavy rain. The secretary said a dengue awareness campaign should also be launched. He directed stalls should be arranged on religious and cultural occasions to promote health education. Hassan Iqbal said the health EDOs were not regulating health facilities in their respective district and were unaware of the needs of DHQ, THQ hospitals and health centres. The directors of General Health Department, the AIDS Control Programme, TB programme and others concerned attended the meeting.

He said every health EDO would be responsible for every activity in health regards and he directed the officers to conduct field survey for reviewing the situation. He said guidelines for strengthening the primary healthcare system have been prepared. He directed health DG to call a meeting of all the EDOs to sensitise the effective implementation.
