SIALKOTFederal Minister for Science and Technology Zahid Hamid has said that the PML-N government has evolved an effective strategy to fight floods in the country.

He stated this while talking to the flood affected people during his visit to the flood-hit villages of Pasrur tehsils. The federal minister revealed that both the federal and provincial governments would not leave the victims alone in this hard time and would soon announce relief package to compensate the people. He also directed the district administration to speed up relief activities in Pasrur tehsil’s flooded areas. Government would also compensate those whose crops have been damaged, he said and asked the officials to conduct a survey of these areas to assess the actual loss of crops and properties.

As many as 27 villages of Pasrur tehsil were inundated, also submerging the standing crops on hundreds of acres of land in Pasrur. Briefing the federal minister, DCO Iftikhar Ali Sahu said that the flood situation was totally under control, as the district administration of Sialkot had already taken all the necessary measure in this regard.

The DCO added that Sialkot district had been divided into 22 sectors to avert the flood under a foolproof flood protection plan, besides, establishing 33 flood relief centres in Sialkot district.

He revealed that all the departments concerned had been put on high alert. He said that the special vigilance teams were monitoring the flood situation in River Chenab round the clock. All the necessary anti-flood measures had been completed, said the DCO and added that the district administration had completed all the necessary arrangements to save the Sialkot district from floods.
