LAHORE - District and Sessions Judge on Friday issued death warrants to two murderers, Abdul Khaliq and Shahzad, on the application moved by Superintendent of Kot Lakhpat Jail. Both the convicts would be hanged on May 27 at Kot Lakhpat Jail.

Abdul Khaliq and Shahzad were announced death sentence in two different murder cases. Abdul Khaliq was convicted in 2002 while Shahzad was convicted in 2011.

filed appeals against their sentences before the superior courts but they rejected them while the President also turned their appeals for mercy.

Statement recorded: An anti-terrorism court Friday recorded the statement of a female doctor in Christian couple’s lynching case and summoned other witnesses to appear in the court and record their statement. Police produced 106 accused before the court in high security arrangements. The lady doctor recorded her statement. The judge could not record the statements of other witnesses as the courtroom was overcrowded due to accused and witnesses.

The counsel of the accused submitted an application before the judge pleading that hot weather and rush in the court was disturbing the smooth functioning of the court.

He pleaded that the hearing of the case should be at some open or widened room. The judge accepted his application and reserved the judgment.

Earlier, the ATC indicted 106 people for their alleged involvement in lynching of Christian Couple in Kot Radha Kishan.

On Nov 4, last year, a mob of over 400 people tortured Shama and Shahzad, poor kiln workers, for their alleged involvement in blasphemy of the Holy Quran and set them on fire in the presence of police. The incident brought a bad name to the country across the globe.
