ISLAMABAD The mysterious arrest of an armed person and his subsequent release under pressure of an official of the National Assembly Secretariat, has spread waves of fear across the Parliaments security apparatus ahead of the joint sitting on October 26 to be addressed by the Turkish Prime Minister. Despite an emergency meeting convened by Dr Babar Awan Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, the issue remains shrouded in mystery as some influential officials did their best to protect the person who was arrested the other day with a sophisticated weapon. According to sources in the Parliament House, Dr Awan insisted that a police case should be registered against the person in question. But most of the officials concerned resisted the Ministers proposal and requested him to hush up the issue. Prominent among those who protected the arrested person included the DSP Parliament House, and a Deputy Secretary Amir Umar, who actually owned the person as his relative as well as private guard. The said deputy secretary is reported to be working as a dubious personal staff officer for an MNA. Well-placed sources said that high-level security officials conducted a surprise security search operation on Wednesday in the parliament house parking and apprehended a suspicious person having a weapon with him. It was learnt that the suspicious person, when arrested, had no Identity Card with him and he introduced himself Ahsan, and a close relative of Deputy Secretary Parliament House Amir Umar. it has been learnt that Amir Umar is a relative of Mahmood Hayat alias Tochi Khan, PPP MNA from Vehari. Despite frequent efforts on the part of TheNation, none of the persons in question were available for comments. According to sources, the issue is still pending seeking amicable resolution and attention of the high-ups.
