LAHORE - Police investigators Wednesday concluded that the death of 25-year-old officer of the Civil Services of Pakistan (CSP) was the result of self-immolation.

Resident of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Karachi, Nabeeha Chaudhry was found burnt to death fr¬om a state-owned hostel under mysterious circumstances in Ghalib Market police precincts on October 15.

Earlier, the police said that she ended her life by sprinkling petrol around her body at the hostel of Audit and Accounts Training Institute in Gulberg. However, Nabeeha’s course mates and her mother refuted the police claim, saying that she could not commit suicide in such a way. The police had registered a murder case against unidentified persons on the complaint of her mother while the dead body was sent to the morgue fro autopsy.

“The police have completed investigations into the incident. Nabeeha committed suicide under extreme mental stress,” a police investigator said. The final investigation report has been forwarded to the Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the provincial government as well, he added.

According to sources, on the day of incident, an employee of the hostel brought a bottle of petrol on the request of the female officer, who had asked for petrol to remove stains from her clothes but instead she set herself ablaze. The report has been compiled after detailed investigations in the light of evidences collected from the crime scene. Her dead body was transported to Karachi from Lahore through a private flight the other day.  Police investigators had also recovered diary from her room. Police sent the samples of the diary to the forensic for verification of the handwriting whereas investigators also examined call records of her mobile phone.

The report also states that 90 percent of her body was burned. The crime scene sparked suspicions among the media men and police investigators as well. The burnt body of the CSP officer was lying in the hostel room as the police entered the building. But everything else in the room was apparently undamaged. The hostel administration told the police that the young officer committed suicide in her room after locking the door from inside. A source close to the investigators disclosed that the woman “ended her life after being spurned in love”. Senior police officers and experts from the Punjab Forensic Science Agency rushed to the spot soon after the incident. After completing her degree in Electronics Engineering from NED University, Nabeeha had passed CSS examination just one year ago and she was under training at the Audit Accounts Training Institute.
