SIALKOT

Seized in the police lines here for the last one year, a dozen buses owned by a non-profit organisation of former federal minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan have started rusting.

In addition, several precious parts of these buses have been stolen by unknown people. She has asked the authorities concerned to save these buses from rusting. These buses were lying non-functional due to alleged political tussle between two political bigwigs namely PPP’s Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan and PML-N’s Khawaja Muhammad Asif, federal minister for defence, water and power.

More than one year ago, the district administration had confiscated these buses, meant for free public service, on the charges of misuse. The fate of these buses has not yet been decided, as the matter was taken to the Lahore High Court by Dr Firdous terming the confiscation as illegal act by the administration and the political victimization by the PML-N government. She alleged that the PML-N had politicised the issue.

She had revealed that it was totally a public welfare project and her NGO was providing free of cost transportation facilities to thousands of girl students belonging to the Bajwat-Sialkot and surrounding villages to reach their schools and college. Making it clear, she said that the then government had donated these buses to her NGO namely “Shade” after completing all the legal requirements and formalities.

She said that the PML-N government was politicising the project by hatching a poisonous political propaganda to damage her political reputation. She strongly criticised the PML-N government for “hatching revenging activities against her”. She pledged to continue her battle for rights of the people at every level. She said that the former Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gillani had donated these buses to the people of Bajwat-Sialkot to provide them with better transport facilities.
