Islamabad/rawalpindi - Around 5,500 personnel of law enforcement agencies will guard worship places and patrol the streets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.

According to details, Islamabad police have devised a comprehensive security plan for the occasion at a special meeting. The meeting was attended by SP investigation Caption (Retd) Muhammad Ilyas, SP Rizwan Umar Gondal, SP Ahmed Iqbal, SP Yasar Afradi, SP Dr Syed Mustafa Tanveer, all SDPOs and SHOs. Under the comprehensive security plan, patrolling at city roads will be ensured for the safety and protection of lives and property of the people during Eid holidays. More than 3,500 policemen would perform security duties and guard religious gatherings at open places, mosques and Imambargahs. Police officials have been assigned security duties at 824 places including 796 mosques, 21 Imambargahs and 7 open places.

Special security arrangements have been made for Faisal Mosque. The police said special pickets would be erected around the Faisal Mosque. The bomb disposal squad would conduct checking of various areas and parking will not be allowed near worship places and congregations. The contingents of mobile reserve police would be part of security measures at important shopping centres including Jinnah Super, Super Market, F-10 and Aabpra markets. Policemen have been assigned duties at bus stands, graveyards and railway station. All SHOs were directed to conduct security meetings with managers of bus stands. Contingents of Pakistan Rangers and police commandoes will assist police in the security duties.

Special directions have been issued to Islamabad police to remain on high alert and fully prepared to avert any untoward situation in the capital during Eid days. Keeping in view the rush of visitors at public places, security measures have also been taken for Shakarparian, Daman-e- Koh, Jasmin Garden, Monal, Lake View Park, Chattar Park and Centauras. As part of security measures, police pickets have been erected at all important entry and exit points for checking of vehicles. Islamabad traffic police will perform duties at various places including worship places, parks and important boulevards, said the plan. Meanwhile, Rawalpindi police have finalised foolproof security plan for Eid-ul-Azha on the special instructions of CPO Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi, informed police spokesman Imran Haider yesterday. Police said that members of banned outfits would not be allowed to collect the hides of sacrificial animals. According to security plan, more than 2,000 armed cops would perform duties in the city. They would also be assisted by Elite Force, MuhafizForce, Quick Response Force, volunteers and ladies police, he added.

He said the police officers of SP and DSP ranks would monitor the police patrols in different areas to control crimes. Special pickets would also be established at all the entry and exit points of the city to check the vehicles and suspicious persons. There will be only one entry point of all the Eid congregations, the spokesman said. He said that special security would also be provided to graveyards and public parks keeping in view the huge influx of public at those places on the occasion of Eid.
