LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif yesterday presided over a meeting which reviewed the steps for the promotion of tree plantation and horticulture in big cities of the province.

The chief minister on the occasions also gave approval to the pilot project of plying buses especially manufactured for the promotion of tourism in Lahore. These double Decker buses will be plied from Qaddafi Stadium to Food Street.

Shahbaz Sharif said that promotion of tree plantation and horticulture for beautification of cities is need of the hour and modern model of the world should be benefitted for this purpose. He directed that PHA should also set up its own nursery and attention should be paid to the promotion of horticulture and tree plantation.

The chief minister further directed to immediately evolve a plan for tree plantation and horticulture on roads of Lahore and modern technology should be benefitted. He said that PHA should evolve a comprehensive plan and present in this regard. He said that Lahore Art Cultural should also present a comprehensive plan with regard to the proposal of pavilion project. DG PHA gave a briefing regarding horticulture and tree plantation.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has sought earliest completion of the plan for the establishment of Blood Diseases and Bone Marrow Transplant Institute in Lahore which he said, is a dire need for the healthcare services of the government.

At a high level meeting, on Tuesday, the CM reviewed various proposals on feasibility and other allied matters of the project and directed the department concerned to present a comprehensive plan in this regard at the earliest. Prof Tahir Shamsi of National Institute for Blood Diseases & Bone Merrow Transplant Karachi gave a briefing to the meeting.

The chief minister wanted the institute to be of international standard also comprising nursing center, center for training of staff and research center. He said the government is spending billions of rupees on the provision of healthcare facilities to the citizens and setting up of hospitals. He said that state of the art liver and transplant institute is fast under completion in the provincial metropolis

Also, Shahbaz Sharif told a high level meeting on Saaf Pani project that supply of pure water through filtration plants has been ensured to 80 per cent area of District Bahawalpur. He said filtration plants under the billions of rupees Project will be set up in the rural areas of all over Punjab which will benefit over 40million people.

He directed the authorities concerned to complete implementation of the project at the earliest maintaining high standards of installation.

He said that a dashboard has been developed for reviewing implementation of the project while saaf pani organisations constituted at local level will monitor implementation of the project. He said that Saaf Pani Project is a splendid programme for the people who cannot afford mineral water and completion of this project will also help in controlling diseases caused by polluted water.

The chief minister directed that the project of rehabilitation of nonfunctional water schemes be presented within four weeks. Chief Executive Officer Saaf Pani Company briefed the meeting regarding the pace of the project.

Separately, a delegation led by Guo Yu, Chairman of a renowned Chinese Company constructing gas power plants called on Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

Talking to the delegation, the chief minister said the gas power plants are of great importance for decreasing energy crisis, that is why, early completion of these projects is one of the priorities of the government. He said that the sincere and serious efforts for energy projects are unprecedented in the history of the country.

Chairman Chinese Company Guo Yu speaking on the occasion said that gas power projects will be completed with high quality and within stipulated period according to the vision of Shahbaz Sharif.
