LAHORE - The Lahore Waste Management Company has completed its arrangements for Solid Waste Management Services especially for prompt collection, storage, transportation and disposal of animal waste on the occasion of Eidul Azha.

Like previous years, distribution of some 850,000 bio-degradable bags among citizens has begun to successfully manage the waste of sacrificed animals. Besides door to door distribution, bags will be made available on dedicated stores/ malls in the city, masaajids and 165 LWMC camps established in each union council two days before and during Eid days.

Mainly, LWMC cleanliness plan has been made functional with arrangements in animal markets established by district government. In order to manage around 480 tons of waste in 7 animal markets on daily basis, 160 sanitary staff along with 50 containers and heavy machinery has already been deployed. Liming and sprinkling of water is being ensured after routine cleanliness in these markets and waste is being removed on scheduled time by Albayrak and Ozpak.

Moreover, a massive operation cleanup will be carried out on Chand Raat to make city’s nook and corner waste free including clearance of open plots. Major shopping centers and commercial markets will be made clear before Eid prayer by deploying dedicated workers and machinery. Sanitary workers, machinery and additional waste containers will be dedicated for some 80 major slaughter points established across the city. 165 camps including 12 model camps will be established in 150 union councils those would be equipped with additional pickups, waste bags and information material to facilitate the citizens during eid days especially to redress people’s complaints regarding removal of animal waste. More than 644 additionally hired pickups and 269 dumpers will be used for door to door collection of offal.

Besides Lakhodair, two additional and temporary dumping sites will be established and arrangements such as earth depressions, excavators, loaders and lying of geo membrane will be made ensure prior to Eid. 113Temporary waste collection& transportation points will also be established across the city which would also facilitate animal waste produced in cooperative housing societies, railway colonies and cantonment board areas.

Moreover, operational measures will be supported and strengthened by a massive public awareness program focusing to sensitize citizens on the use of waste bags and containers for the disposal of animal waste. Information about cleanliness measures are being provided to public through awareness activities in the form of lectures walks, establishing camps, door to door distribution of pamphlets and briefing of citizens.

Educational institutions, markets, recreational places and mosques are being tapped in this regard. Imaam masjids, Ulema ikram have been requested to aware masses on importance of cleanliness in the light of teaching of Islam.

Operational and awareness activities will be monitored using android mobile technology and record will be maintained and will also be made available on the website of Punjab Information & Technology Board. A control room in the head office will also be established equipped with addition manpower.
