There was a time when the people of Lyari held the Pakistan Peoples Party and its leaders in high esteem, particularly in the area of NA-248. But this time, it is different.

It seems that the PPP candidates may not be able to draw much support from Lyari during the upcoming elections, since the government has failed to end the prevailing chaos and lawlessness in the area.

The people of Lyari were known for their patriotism. They believed in the PPP leaders more than anyone else. When Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto was alive and was in charge of the party, she used to take the time to visit them.

However, in the last five years of the democratically-elected government, Lyari and its people have been completely ignored. President Asif Ali Zardari never visited the place - not even once.

With this attitude, how does the leaders of the PPP expect to get votes from the residents of the area - once a major hub of the party?
