LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif visited five different Ramzan bazaars in the provincial metropolis on Sunday to review the supply of sasta atta, sugar and other essential items as well as their prices. He visited different stalls and enquired from people about supply of sasta atta and sugar. Talking to citizens during his visit to Shalimar Ramzan Bazaar, the chief minister said the Punjab government had made effective arrangements for provision of quality consumer items to the people at reasonable rates during Ramzan-ul-Mubarak and sasta atta, sugar, vegetables, fruits and other essential items were being provided at affordable rates. He said the government was utilising all available resources for the betterment of poor people and common man whereas former rulers wasted funds on their own luxuries. He said service of the people was mission of his government and no effort would be spared in this regard. He said though some problems were being faced in obtaining flour and sugar in Ramzan bazaars on the first day of Ramzan-ul-Mubarak but these complaints would be addressed within next 48 hours and articles of daily use would be easily available to the people. The chief minister said he would visit different areas of the province for monitoring the supply of quality essential items to the citizens at the fixed rates and he was starting this process from Lahore. He said smooth supply of essential items at fixed rates was the commitment of government and no one would be allowed exploitation of the masses. He issued instructions for improving cleanliness arrangements in Islampura Ramzan bazaar. Similarly he issued instructions to capital city police chief to make effective security arrangements in Ramzan bazaars and other sale points of sasta atta for the benefit of consumers. The chief minister also paid surprise visits to sasta Ramzan bazaars in Do Moriya Pull and Johar Town and asked people about the prices of essential items and their quality at different stalls. Govt spending billions for providing sasta atta, says Shahbaz Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif presided over an emergent meeting for reviewing the monitoring of Ramazan package and Ramzan bazaars here on Sunday in which parliamentarians, chief secretary, secretary home, secretary food, IG Police, commissioner Lahore division and other concerned officials participated. Addressing the meeting, Shahbaz Sharif said the government was spending billions of rupees for providing atta, sugar and other daily commodities at cheaper rates to the masses and it was our responsibility to play our role for easy provision of eatable items at cheaper rates to the people. He directed that arrangements with regard to availability of daily use items and their provision at reasonable prices in Ramzan bazaars should be made within 24 hours so the people should not feel any difficulty in getting these items. He directed that all the commissioners and DCOs should contact parliamentarians and this welfare programme should be coordinated in all possible ways. He said if we could not provide facilities to the poor, orphan, widows and downtrodden people then all our efforts would be of no use. He said the rates of items should be displayed conspicuously in Ramzan bazaars and other markets. He directed the chief secretary to hold meetings daily for monitoring the prices of daily use items. He directed that the availability of sugar should be improved by tomorrow in all Ramzan bazaars and there should be no complaint regarding shortage of sugar anywhere.
