LAHORE- Jamat e Islami (JI) Ameer Sirajul Haq today asked National Assembly speaker Ayaz Sadiq not to accept resignations submitted by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members of the National Assembly.

Siraj arrived at National Assembly speaker Ayaz Sadiq’s residence and discussed with him matters pertaining to prevailing political stalemate and resignations submitted by the PTI. Talking to journalists following the meeting, Siraj said that if the resignations submitted by the PTI were approved immediately, it will create distance among political forces. “Under article 224 of the constitution by-election must be conducted on vacant seats in 60 days,” he said. “We talked to political leaders including Asif Ali Zardari and Khursheed Shah, and reached the consensus that the resignations should not be accepted in haste,” Siraj told journalists.

“Both government and protesting PTI believed in constitution and also wanted to provide relief to the people, so we think that we would find way to end the political impasse in honorable manner,” the JI chief said

“18 crore people and overseas Pakistani want settlement of the prevailing political deadlock through dialogue,” he added. He expressed hope that NA speaker Ayaz Sadiq would keep in view ground realities before looking into the matter of resignations. On the occasion, Ayaz Sadiq told newsmen that Sirajul Haq asked him to avoid proceedings over resignations submitted by the PTI MNAs. He said that before leaving for Lahore on Friday he was told that PTI MNAs came to meet him. Sadiq said he is an impartial person from the day he took oath as speaker of the National Assembly.
