PESHAWAR - Qari Zainuddin Mehsud, who had recently revolted against Tehreek-e- Taliban Pakistan (TTP) chief Baitullah Mehsud, was shot dead early in the morning on Tuesday in his office at Madina Colony Mosque, Dera Ismail Khan. His bodyguard, Baaz Muhammad, was also injured in the incident. According to details, after offering Fajr prayers, Qari Zainuddin was in his office, located inside the mosque premises, when a Taliban militant, Gulbadin Mehsud, entered the office and fired at him. Qari Zainuddin received several bullets in the head. He was rushed to a hospital instantly. But before getting any first aid, he succumbed to injuries and died. However, the condition of his bodyguard is stable. Dera Ismail Khan Police have registered the case. The police officials said that the injured bodyguard Baaz Muhammad told them that Gul Badin Mehsud successfully escaped after committing the crime. Referring to the bodyguards statement they further said that Gulbadin had recently joined Qari Zainuddin after revolting against Baitullah Mehsud. However, they believed that Baitullah Mesud had instigated Gul Badin to kill Qari Zain. Later, the dead body of Qari Zainuddin Mehsud was airlifted to Abbotabad where most of his relatives are residing. Qari Zain would be buried there. It is worth mentioning that Qari Zainuddin had developed differences with Baitullah Mehsud after the assassination of Abdullah Mehsud, the militant leader who had kidnapped and killed Chinese engineers. He was shot dead during an encounter at Zhob, Balochistan, in mid 2006. Recently, Qari Zain had declared him a rival of Baitullah Mehsud and established his office in Dera Ismail Khan. The assassination of Qari Zain could be considered a setback to the efforts being made to eliminate Baitullah Mehsud. Qari Zains cousin, Hakeemullah Mehsud is second to Baitullah and Talibans supreme commander for Kurram, Orakzai, Khyber, Darra Adamkhel, Hangu and Kohat regions. Monitoring Desk adds: Tehrik-e-Taliban Swat chief Maulana Fazalullahs naib commander Shah Doraan has been killed during the ongoing operation, reported Waqt TV channel on Tuesday, quoting military sources. Shah Doraan was incharge and mastermind of suicide attacks being carried out across the country to spread terror-based agenda by the outlawed outfit. It is to be recalled that there are rumours regarding killing of the key leaders of TTP Maulana Fazalullah and Muslim Khan.
