LAHORE The second Sayyid Paper Mills Golf Tournament produced unrelenting competitive activity at the par 72 notable Lahore Gymkhana Golf Course on Tuesday. As around 80 combatants using their combination of 14 golf sticks to maximum advantage, tried to win honors but ultimately Aleem-ur-Rehman emerged as the best amateur and Dr Zahid Khan as the best senior. In their quest for achieving success, Aleem, who is a national level player, remained glued to the basics during his round of 18 holes and the round of gross 76 was the result of good course management, avoidance of stray-hitting and using the putter effectively. Dr Zahid too was equally adept and with a grand score of 75 turned out to be the best senior. Besides them others who won acclaim are Alam Sethi, Mohsin Anwar and Mustafa Rafi Khan in net section and Daaniyal Jehangir, Shafiq Bhatti and Sardar Murad in gross section. In the handicap category 10-18,the top performers are Masood Piracha (first), Asim Bucha (second) and Mian Tariq (third) in gross category and Zunair Khan (1st), Shehryar Khan (2nd) and Shameel Mazhar (3rd) in net section. Invitational winners are Sardar Leghari, Javed Murtaza and Asad Mian. The seniors section was dominated by Dr Zahid Khan, and the runners up was Lt Col. Zulfiqar Rana. Dr Tariq Malik played superbly to win net. Maureen Malik and Maryama were the top ones amongst ladies and the top veterans turned out to be Javed Zia and Dr Zafar Aziz Khan. At the conclusion of the event Faisal Sayyid of Sayyid Paper Mills distributed prizes to the winners.
