RAWALPINDI - PPP Secretary Information Fauzia Wahab has rejected the impression that most of the Pakistani people were living under poverty line saying if this was true then women could not participate in the industrial exhibitions of precious clothes being organised constantly in the three big cities of the country to buy clothes worth thousands of rupees. She said this while responding to a query of media men at PPP City Office at Liaquat Bagh here on Monday. She said: There are some business tycoons who are holding the exhibitions of expensive clothes in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad continuously besides spending millions of rupees on advertisements of their businesses by placing billboards and publishing and airing in the media to attract the customers." "As a result, women across the country throng towards these exhibitions and buy a suit even of Rs 4,000. From where they get money, these are their male family heads, who earn and give them money for the shopping. On the occasion, PPP City President Malik Aamer Fida Paracha, Secretary Information Syed Shujaat Haider Naqvi, MSF leader Banaras Chaudhry, Prince Navid and scores of workers including Hafiza Rukhsana Bashir were also present. Earlier, Fauiza Wahab, while speaking, said that it was PPP which came into power four times under difficult circumstances and did much for betterment of Pakistan. She said that founder of PPP Zulfikar Ali Bhutto gave constitution to the country, equipped it with atomic power and made it as Muslim counties fortress. At the time when ZAB entered into power corridors, Pakistan was in a bad condition, some 5,000 square miles land was in occupation while 90,000 troops were in custody of the neighbouring country. ZAB restored esteem of Pakistan by inking Shimla Pact, said PPP Information Secretary adding that now India could not dare to attack on Pakistan. While counting the successes of PPP government, she claimed that PPP introduced Information Technology and Mobile System for the first time in the country, strengthened economy by starting privatisation and initiated Power Policy to get rid of loadshedding. PPP leadership made difficult decisions in last two years which according to her, were not good for popularity but essential for prosperity and strengthening for the homeland. Fauzia Wahab was of view that PPP government ended subsidy and introduced Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) under which Rs 12,000 annually were being given to deserving people while 300,000 under Wasila-e-Haq Programme as Qarz-e-Husna were also being awarded to poor families for the time period of 15 years to set up their own businesses. After this, the poverty will eliminate from the society within five years, she hoped. PPP Information Secretary added that the increasing prices of oil in international market and water shortage were the main reasons for the ongoing energy shortage. After completion of five years PPP term, 7,000 Mega Watt electricity would be produced. She said that some elements scraped Rental Power Project (RPP) by launching a vicious campaign against it, after which the policy makers refused to come to Pakistan for the said project. She said that President Asif Ali Zardari after political relations also wished for enhancing trade between Pakistan and China for which he paid several visits to the friendly country. Pakistan is still waiting for issuance of Rs 5 billion dollars promised by Friends of Democratic Pakistan, she lamented. She said that the aid was stopped by FODP because of baseless allegations levelled by some propagandists against government high-ups. To a question, Fauzia Wahab said that those who are launching sadistic campaign against PPP government must know that PPP leadership is aware of their conspiracies which would not succeed. PPP government is going to present the Bbll for 18th amendment in the Constitution which will strengthen the democracy and federation as well, she replied on another question.
