ISLAMABAD (APP) - Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said the nation will soon hear good news about the Constitution of 1973. Speaking at a reception hosted on the occasion of Pakistan Day here on Tuesday, the Prime Minister said the Parliament has asserted its supremacy during the period of the PPP govt.In the last two years instead of personalities, institutions were strengthened in the country, he said adding the govt had promoted the politics of reconciliation and tolerance. He said the democratically elected govt has completed its two years and the fruits of the democratic continuity have started to come to the fore. The state institutions are working within their constitutional ambit, the package of Aghaz-e-Haqooq-Pakistan was introduced in an effort to bring smaller provinces and the backward areas into the mainstream and Gilgit-Baltistan was given autonomy, he said while recounting successes of the government. He recalled that when PPP formed the government, the international circles were talking about Pakistan becoming a failed state. But now the situation has changed and the international community is focusing on the Pak-US strategic dialogue, he said adding with the support of the government and the people, the security forces dealt a decisive bloww to terrorists and extremist and the world is appreciative of the actions of Pakistan. The Prime Minister said Pakistan Day was being observed at a time when the country was standing at a critical phase of its history and the international community realises Pakistans role and services in the war against terrorism and extremism. Gilani said now the world is stressing on India to come to the negotiating table with Pakistan to resolve all outstanding issues including the dispute of Kashmir. He said the challenges facing the country demand national unity and harmony. He said conditions in the country require that the thinking of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah should be made the guiding principles for progress and prosperity. He said the credit for the successes and performance of the govt goes not only to them but to every Pakistani. The opposition, civil society and media played a positive and constructive role to help keep the government on the right track, he mentioned. He vowed to make Pakistan according to the dreams of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Allama Iqbal, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. He quoted Quaid-e-Azam, who in his speech at Islamia College Peshawar in 1948 said they wanted to build Pakistan which shapes the future of Islamic world and the people have to rise above provincialism and racial and other prejudices to promote patriotism for a stronger Pakistan for which millions of Muslims sacrificed their lives. Gilani expressed his governments resolve to rid the country of the menace of terrorism and extremism, strengthen democracy and resolve problems of the people. The Prime Minister underlined the need for the government, opposition, state institutions and people to come together to steer Pakistan on the road to peace and development.
