LAHORE PML-N Chief Mian Nawaz Sharif has urged upon Sweden and European Union (EU) to bring India and Pakistan at negotiating table for peace and stability in the region. He expressed these views during a meeting with Swedish Ambassador Urlika Sundberg and Special Envoy Anna Karin Enestrom who called on him at his residence in Raiwind on Tuesday. The PML-N Chief stressed the need for ending Indian atrocities in Kashmir, which is breeding extremism. "Good relations between Pakistan and India are important for stability in the region and peace can be achieved only by resolving all outstanding issues including Kashmir and water," Nawaz said. Pointing to the urgency regarding speedy measures for resettling and rehabilitating the people of tribal areas and Swat, he said international community should help Pakistan achieve this goal. He said backward areas needed to be brought at par with other parts of the country by providing basic infrastructure like roads, electricity, health and education. The PML-N Chief said it was the duty of the government to ensure good governance for the people and not to provide excuse to anyone to derail the system. He said a free and independent judiciary was also required to protect the democratic institutions in order to contain the adventurers from derailing the democracy. Urlika Sundberg and Anna Karin Enestrom appreciated the efforts of PML-N and its leadership for strengthening the democracy and its struggle for the independence of judiciary. The Swedish ambassador said her country, the current president of European Union, was committed to assist Pakistan in its efforts to bring development in the conflict zones.
