LAHORE - The Lahore High Court on Thursday sought reply from Election Commission of Pakistan on a petition demanding re-polling in PP-266 Layyah. The court passed the orders on the petition moved by a runner up candidate Shafique who submitted that Supreme Court had disqualified PML-N candidate Ghulam Haider to contest elections from PP-266 on the grounds of defaulter of government dues.

However, the ECP mistakenly allotted election symbol to Ghulam Haider despite the fact he was not contesting elections after apex court orders, the petitioner’s counsel pointed out.  On May 11, at least 7,000 votes were polled to Ghulam Haider, the counsel said.  The counsel said his client could win the elections if these 7,000 votes were polled to him, but the same went as waste. He requested the court to direct ECP for re-polling in PP-266. The court recorded initial arguments and issued notice to ECP for reply till June 16th.
