Karachi - If towering medium pacer Irfan with a five wicket burst busted Karachi Whites in the first innings on the first day of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match, on the second day middle order batsman Ali Khan sent the home team on leather hunt by hitting an unbeaten 117 as KRL consolidated its position in the four day contest here on Friday at the National stadium. Six feet seven inches tall Muhammad Irfan had conceded just 27 runs for his five wicket haul that forced Karachi Whites to surrender for paltry 87 runs in the first knock. Ali Khan batted with authority to carry KRL first innings to 508 for eight wickets at the close of the second days play. With two days remaining in the match and enjoying massive 421 runs lead KRL barring glorious the uncertainties of game could do nothing but win the match hands down. The visitors resumed its first innings at overnight total of 210 for three with skipper Muhammad Wasim batting 69 and Bazid Khan 12. Muhammad Wasim lasted only four balls in the morning before falling to Ali Mudassar without adding any runs to his overnight total. Early breakthrough in the morning boosted Karachi moral but the home team could not press on with the early advantage as Bazid Khan batted on majestically to carve out 53 before departing which brought Ali Khan on the crease. Ali started well and grew in confidence as he dominated eight man Karachi attack. He hit ten fours and four sixes in his so far 266 balls stay at the crease. In another match of the championship now in progress here at the UBL ground Pakistan Customs playing against PIA, resuming its first innings at overnight total of216 for six added just eleven more runs before falling for 227. Najaf Shah took four for 31 and Aijaz bin Ilyas three for 33. At close of play PIA had replied with 185 for six with opener Khurram Manzoor contributing laborious 51 made in 191 balls. Misbah hammers double century Discarded middle order batsman Misbahul Haq hammered patient double century in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match to remind the national selection committee that he still has cricket left in him. Misbah, who was playing at 153, and Usman Arshad 115, resumed the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited innings from an overnight total of 385 to lead the total 609 for six declared in 118.2 overs against Lahore Shalimar here at the Lahore City Cricket Association Ground on day two of the four-day group A match. Misbah said that with fitness and scoring runs he would dispel the impression that his increasing age is a bearer in the way of his career. He said that he has already gone through shocks of axing from the team but he would make his comeback by showing better form. In reply, Lahore were having hard times when five of its top batsmen were back in the dressing room with 158 runs on board and they are still a long way to go to avoid follow on. Asad Ali and Rizwan Akbar ripped throught the Lahore upper order taking three and two wickets respectively. Hosts Islamabad managed 204 for 6 on the board against Karachi Blue on the 2nd day of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy cricket match here at Diamond Club Ground on Friday. Earlier, Karachi Blue scored 396 runs in their first innings with the support of Sheharyar Ghani, who hit a massive ton (15) for the visitors. On Friday, Karachi Blue resumed their remaining innings at 337 for 7, as Javad Mansoor and captain Muhammad Sami were not out at 30 and 8 respectively. However, Karachi lost three wickets, adding 59 runs in their total. Javad played an unbeaten innings of 55 runs at a crucial stage of the innings. He hit eight fours and faced 102 balls. Tenvir contributed 30 runs for the Karachi Blues. Shehzad Azam grabbed four wickets while skipper Rauf Akbar and Nasrullah Khan shared three wickets each by conceding 111, 100 and 69 runs respectively. Tenvir Ahmed (3 for 65) and Tariq Haroon (2 for 30) forced Islamabad to go at back foot, as they had lost five wickets at 99. However, Ameer Khans 69 runs innings and Naeem Anjums 43 runs not out innings saved the hosts from big damage. Raheel (21), Umair Khan (20) were other major scorers for Islamabad. At the stumps day-2, Islamabad were 204 for 6 in 65 overs. They will resume their remaining innings on Saturday (today).
