ISLAMABAD - Pakistan thrashed hosts United Arab Emirates (UAE) in straight games 3-0 in their opening fixture of the 11th Al-Rashid International Mens Volleyball Championship 2009 at Sports City, Dubai. A spokesman for Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) told reporters here Friday that the green shirts displayed excellent skills to overcome their rivals in the first game. They conceded 19 points in the first game in just 18 minutes at 25-19. In the second game, both teams showed their best and levelled the score at 25-25 and 27-27. Zaheer Abbas led the Pakistan team by scoring two consecutive points to finish the game at 29-27. In the final game, Pakistan excelled in all departments to win the match set at 25-22. Zaheer Abbas, Ali Abbas, Mohib Rasool, Ismail Khan, and Shujja Abbas contributed most points for the team. Pakistan will face Indonesia today (Saturday) take on Thailand on Sunday, Bahrain on October 26, and face Oman on October 29 in the last fixture of the championship.
