Waseela-e-Haq programme aims at socio-economic empowerment of women and to enable families an opportunity for self-employment. Addressing the launching ceremony of the scheme under Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), also attended by Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani at Aiwan-e-Sadr. The President termed the scheme a dream come true of the concept forwarded by Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. Under the scheme, 731 families selected through a monthly draw, will get Rs 300,000 each, to enable them start some self-employment project. The BISP currently has 2.2 million beneficiaries and are divided in 731 clusters of 3000 families each. The President said the government would pursue the vision of Benazir Bhutto who always struggled for the rights of women in the country. He said under the scheme, funds would be provided to give economic empowerment to the 'Poorest of the Poor women to help them sustain and support their families. He said that government would soon initiate similar programmes to alleviate poverty, generate economic activity and increase employment opportunities. The President congratulated Prime Minister and his team for fulfilling the dream of Benazir Bhutto that is now being recognised internationally. He said the idea of Waseela-e-Haq was to develop a sense of goodwill for the people of Pakistan by addressing their needs besides ensuring the survival of democracy. Earlier President Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani launched the computer ballot to randomly select 731 families who will get Rs 300,000 as interest-free loan that can be returned on easy monthly installments. Gilani, terming the scheme as yet another milestone towards fulfillment of the vision of Shaheed Zulfiqar All Bhutto and Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, said so far Rs 19 billion have been dispersed under the BISP. He said the objective of Waseela-e-Haq is to economically empower the women belonging to poor segments of the society and to help them become independent. He said the BISP is aimed at providing economic justice and welfare for all by bringing the masses out of the vicious poverty cycle. The Prime Minister said under the transparent programme there would be no political discrimination and cash relief be provided, which, he hoped, would also rejuvenate the nation by giving a message of hope. The Waseela-e-Haq will help thousands of families graduate out of the monthly subsistence, and set up their own small businesses and live a life of dignity and self respect. Prime Minister Gilani also lauded the Chairperson Farzana Raja and her team for making the programme a success. Chairperson of BISP Ms Farzana Raja said the New Revolutionary Project will help the government address the financial problems of the masses, as stated under the PPP manifesto. She said under the Waseela-e-Haq programme, the poor and vulnerable sections of the society will get their rightful status, through transparent programme. She said health and accident insurance cover will also be added to the programme.
