LAHORE – Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Muhammad Aslam Tareen said on Tuesday that a comprehensive security plan had been chalked out for Eidul Azha, and more than 8,000 policemen would be deployed across the provincial metropolis to ensure foolproof security around mosques and open places where Eid prayers were to be held.

The additional IG further said that police officials equipped with metal detectors would be deployed at mosques, Imam Barghas and other religious places; and complete security would be provided to the citizens of Lahore on all the three days of Eidul Azha.

According to a police spokesman, the CCPO stated this while addressing a meeting held in this regard at Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh. DIG (Operations) Rai Muhammad Tahir, DIG (Investigations) Chaudhry Muhammad Shafiq, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Sohail Chaudhry, all divisional SPs, SP Security, SP Headquarters, SP Mobiles and SP CIA were also present on this occasion.

The city police chief directed the CTO to prepare a special traffic plan for ensuring smooth flow of traffic on roads during Eid days and directed that additional traffic wardens be deputed on important roads and in busy areas. He further directed that additional police force be deployed at markets and business places to provide protection to Eid shoppers.

The police were also directed to make foolproof arrangements at the entry and exit points of the City, around important buildings, bus and wagon stands, and commercial centres by deploying plainclothesmen to keep a vigilant eye on the activities of miscreants. The meeting was informed that the Lahore police would remain on high alert on the occasion of Eidul Azha to ensure maintenance of law and order, and avoid any possible subversive activity in the City.

The CCPO said that to achieve this objective, all divisional SPs, supervisory police officers, SHOs, sub-inspectors and assistant sub-inspectors should be deployed at sensitive points in the City, while armed patrolling of mobile squad should also be intensified.
