RAWALPINDI - A district and sessions court on Tuesday summoned PML-N MPA of constituency PP-4 Gujarkhan in connection with a fake degree case on November 1.

District and Sessions Judge (DSJ) Syed Mahroof Ali issued notices to PML-N MPA from Gujarkhan Raja Shaukat Aziz Bhatti to appear in the court along with its educational record.

Deputy Election Commissioner (DEC) Zahoor Ahmed Pasha filed a complaint, through his lawyer Raja Shujah-ur-Rehman, in the court of DSJ, saying the sitting MPA of PML-N Raja Shaukat Aziz Bhatti had submitted fake degree of Punjab University (PU) along with his nomination paper for 2008 general elections and later tried to change his degree with a diploma he has been awarded by Victoria College in London.

The petitioner said the accused filed his nomination papers before the Returning Officer declaring on oath that he was a graduate, was qualified under Article 62 and was not subject to any disqualification provided under Article 63 to become a candidate for the seat of provincial assembly. However, later the degree was found as phony by Higher Education Commission (HEC), the DEC added.

Taking action, a criminal case was filed with PS Gujarkhan against the MPA on complaint of ECP for submitting fake degree following the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s verdict in 2010 about checking the degrees of legislators.

Police, however, handed over a clean chit to PML-N MPA Raja Shaukat Aziz Bhatti saying that he did not submit any bachelor degree issued by PU with the nomination papers rather filed a diploma issued by a UK based university.

Showing dissatisfaction over the interrogation by police, the DEC knocked the door of DSJ Rawalpindi asking for punishing the MPA for committing forgery and submitting fake documents. Zahoor Ahmed Pasha stated that the degree was sent to PU, Lahore, by HEC for verification.

However, the PU administration informed HEC that the admission form was filled in by Sheikh Shaukat Aziz not by Raja Shaukat Aziz. No degree was issued to Raja Shaukat Aziz Bhatti by the university.

On this, DSJ Syed Mahroof Ali summoned PML-N MPA Raja Shaukat Aziz Bhatti on November 1.

Reportedly, the MPA, after penning in a case with PS Gujarkhan, replaced the degree with diploma allegedly with the help of concerned staff in the judicial record office of Gujarkhan. The scam was later unearth by an inquiry launched by Additional District and Sessions Judge Mah Rukh Aziz Tara.

It is important to mention here that Raja Shaukat Aziz Bhatti reached Punjab Assembly on the ticket of PML-Q in general elections 2008 and later joined in PML-N.
