OKARA - Against privatization, hundreds of Wapda employees from Okara and Renala Khurd took out a rally.

The protesters in the rally said they would not allow privatization of Wapda at any cost. They also pledged to protest against the proposed privatization regardless of arrests.

PPP WORKERS APPLAUD WATTOO’S NOMINATION: The PPP workers hailed the decision of PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari for assigning an important political role to Wattoo in the Punjab.

While felicitating Wattoo over his elevation, they also applauded what they called political wisdom of PPP Co-Chairman Zardari.

They said that President Zardari had brought forward a politician who possessed political sagacity to lead the party in the Punjab. They hoped that Wattoo would take along all the estranged party workers with him.

In jubilation, the PPP workers fired crackers and distributed sweets out-side Manzoor Wattoo party office.  Meanwhile, a police contingent reached the spot and they dispersed the party workers. They also snatched fire crackers from them.

RAIDS: During raids the Okara police have arrested five vintners and seized a huge quantity of wine and charas.

In Anwaar Shaheed Colony Renala Khurd, the police arrested Munawar alias Touta, a publican and resident of Jamil, and recovered 10 litres of liquor from his possession. In another raid in 25/2R, the police arrested Mohammad Waqas, an alleged peddler, and recovered 10 litres of wine. During a raid at stadium road, the police arrested Shah Rukh, a resident of Christian Colony and seized 15 bottles of liquor.

In a raid at GT Road, the police held Mohammad Shafi, a resident of Dubai Town, and recovered 5 litres of wine.

KIDNAPPED GIRL REACHES HOME: A young girl abducted four months ago from Lasharian has reached her house.  The resident of Lasharian, Nekaan Bibi, was kidnapped allegedly by Iftikhar, Mumtaz and Iqbal 4 months ago and also raped by them. Meanwhile, she managed to escape from their detention.

POLIO DRIVE: Polio campaign has started in Okara.  About 455,000 children under 5 years of age will be administered polio drops during the three day campaign, said EDO Health Dr Saeedullah Khan. On the occasion, DO Health Dr Muhammad Athar and MS DHQ Hospital Dr Qari Muhamad Abbas were also present. The EDO Health said experienced mobile teams of health officials and staff would go from door to door in this regard.
