SRINAGAR - While dispute between Pakistan and India over the Baghliar project is yet to be settled, the Indian Environment Ministry has cleared the execution of the 450 mw Baghliar-II hydro-electric project in Held Jammu and Kashmir.

Executive Director, State Power Development Corporation (SPDC), Zahoor Ahmad said that the construction of the project has been approved by the Ministry’s high-power committee on power projects.

The SPDC owns Baghliar-II and 20 other power projects in Held Kashmir including 450 mw Baghliar-I. “The work is going on the project and it will be completed on scheduled time,” he said. A senior SPDC official said the dam already built for Baghliar-I would be used for the Phase-II of the power project.
