KARACHI – The Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry President Haroon Agar said on Tuesday that Chairman Businessmen Group Siraj Kassam Teli was contacted by Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on the issue of law and order situation in city and the protests announced by Karachi Chamber.

According to a statement, Siraj Teli informed the Chief Minister of crimes taking place on daily basis and gave few examples such as incident of Kharadar killings of two innocent traders, shooting guard of a marble trader on refusing to pay bhatta and many such incidences of crimes, he said in a statement aimed to apprise business community of the development taking place.

Siraj Teli also informed the Chief Minister that Business & Industrial Community had no other option as the police, law enforcing agencies and the state are not providing security to the citizens of Karachi and all the decisions taken in the past meetings with regards to law and order with the government and law enforcing agencies have never been implemented and the crimes have increased manifold.

Therefore, it was unanimously decided by KCCI and all the Industrial Town Associations along-with Small Traders/Market Associations to protest in phases: Display protest banners across the city with such slogans to awaken the Government; Karachi Chamber to file a petition in the Supreme Court for implementation on the orders of the SC in so motto law & order case of Karachi; A peaceful sit-in on 3rd November at the Governor and CM Houses simultaneously and complete closure of businesses and industry along with markets shutter down on 10th November 2012.

Chief Minister informed that only three days back he had called a meeting of all the law enforcing agencies and has given strict orders to control crimes and if in any area killings take place the SHO, DSP and SP of that jurisdiction will be held responsible and serious action will be taken against them and also informed other steps taken to curb the crime.

Chief Minister wanted to come to Karachi Chamber to inform about the measures being taken to provide security and law & order but Siraj Teli stated that they had a lot of meetings in the past with no results for the betterment of the law and order situation and the decisions of protests have taken place at the platform of Karachi Chamber with all the stakeholders of Karachi’s business & industrial community and enough time has been given to Government to act on the ground and show the results.

Siraj Teli stated that Chief Minister agreed to order law enforcing agencies to show visible results on the ground for the betterment in Old City Areas and all the industrial zones within three days and then we at KCCI will call a meeting of all the stakeholders again and the Chief Minister can address them to discuss the matter to decide about the protests with the stakeholders.
