LAHORE – The PPP activists who gathered at the residence of Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) Chairman Sayed Asif Hashmi on Tuesday paid glowing tributes to the late Begum Nusrat Bhutto on the occasion of her first death anniversary.

In their speeches, they mentioned Nusrat Bhutto’s democratic struggle against the dictatorial rule of General Ziaul Haq who dismantled the elected government of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in 1977.

Former provincial minister Badruddin Chaudhry, Sayed Faraz Hashmi and Rahat Saeed were among the party activists who acclaimed Nusrat Bhutto for her courage to stand out tall against a dictator.

Speaking on the occasion, Asif Hashmi lauded Nusrat Bhutto’s leadership qualities and recalled the period when she was forced to lead the party after the hanging of her husband in 1979. “She was a great mother and a leader who led the party in a most difficult time,” he added.
