QUETTA - Seven people were kidnapped by more than 10 armed men in Bolan district, about 250-kilometre southeast of the provincial capital, officials and sources said on Tuesday.

Bolan District Police Officer (DPO) Ghulam Dastager Tareen said that some passengers were heading towards Sibi late Monday when more than 10 masked kidnappers ambushed their van at Dahadar area of Bolan. Seven people, including driver and conductor, went missing after the abductors’ raid, the district police officer.

Sources said that the van, bearing registration SI / 2864, was booked by the relatives of Sibi bomb blast victim from Quetta to go back to their hometown. The missing people were named as Sibi resident Ghous Bakhsh, official Abdul Fateh, Barkat Ali, Faisal Saud, Hanifullah, driver Muhammad Ashraf and conductor Nuroz Khan.

A case has been registered and a hunt for the missing passengers is on. No group has claimed responsibility so far. The surge in kidnapping for ransom has set alarms bells ringing in the province, but the authorities concerned have been blamed for dragging their feet over the matter.
