BAHAWALPUR – Annual sports of special children were concluded on Tuesday at the Government Degree College for Special Education, where a number of sports events including athletics, badminton, cricket, table tennis, wrestling etc were held.

The special children of various classes took part in these games and showed their enthusiasm and skills. They were appreciated by a large number of spectators during the events.

Advisor to the Punjab Chief Minister Mian Baleeghur Rehman was the chief guest on the concluding ceremony. He appreciated the performance of the special children and congratulated the administration and staff of the Special Education Institutions of the city over keeping the special children active through games.

He said that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had been taking keen interest in the promotion of education and sports and the Punjab Youth Festival was a part of it to promote healthy activities in the society and the participation of the special children in these programmes were highly remarkable.

He said that the chief minister had taken a number of steps for the welfare and rehabilitation of special people to make them an active part of the society as the opening of the secondary classes and establishment of the Degree College for Special Education was a sign of his care and love for special children.

DEO Special Education Shazi Hashmat,  BISE Bahawalpur Secretary Farrah Javed, DO Social Welfare Ishtiaq Ahmed and notables of the area attended the function. Principal Sultan Azam highlighted the performance and achievements of the institutes.

ANNIVERSARY: The 1st death anniversary of Nusrat Bhutto was held at different places of the city in which local PPP leaders and workers paid rich tributes to Mrs Bhutto over her services for democracy.

PPP Bahawalpur Secretary Information Muhammad Saleem and party worker Khalid Masroor Pirzada arranged Quran Khawani on the occasion and offered Fateha for the departed souls of the Bhutto family. The participants also prayed for the integrity and solidarity of the country and for smooth process of democracy in the country and PPP’s success in the next elections.

TEACHERS PAID TRIBUTES: The vice-chancellor of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur said that education, care, guidance and character building are the basic needs for success and for making any society exemplary.

“So we have to insist on education for strong and progressive Pakistan while the University was playing its role in this regard through various ways to promote education and knowledge,” said Dr Muhammad Mukhtar during a function at the IUB Model School. The function was held to acknowledge the remarkable contribution and services of the teachers and pay them glowing tributes.

He remarked that the IUB would fully support all efforts for the promotion of education in all fields as the training of Daanish School teachers, launching of mobile schools in the far flung areas of Cholistan and assistance for the provision of education in the area are part of the mission to spread and promote education at all levels.

He disclosed that the efforts were underway to upgrade the IUB’S Model School as secondary school to provide secondary education to the children of the IUB staff. University Model School Principal Shazia Alvi in her welcome address briefed the ongoing progress of academic and extra-curricular activities of the school. The students presented a number of colourful events on the occasion to mark their respect for teachers, elders, love for country and religion. A large number of students, parents, teachers and notables of the city attended the function.
