LAHORE - Member Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) Hafiz Abdul Rahman Ansari through a letter has opposed eight members of the PBC who want to invite Chief Justice of Pakistan Abdul Hameed Dogar to receive additional space for the Bar office in Islamabad from his hand. Mr Ansari has repudiated the invitation sent to him by the secretary on behalf of members to attend the meeting on September 24 (today) to consider inviting Justice Dogar to 'formally hand over' the premises to the PBC. Ansari in reply said holding meetings with Justice Dogar is a violation of the numerous resolutions passed by the council since November 3. He says the PBC since then had struggled for the restoration of the deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry to the office of Chief Justice of Pakistan so let us not waste our struggle 'honouring unconstitutional/PCO CJP.' He has requested to postpone the meeting. The requisition for meeting was made by Ch Muhammad Ashraf Wahla, Muhammad Ramzan Ch, Dr A Khalid Ranjha, Raja Muhammad Shafqat Abbasi, Pervez Inayat Malik, Muhammad Kazim Khan, Mirza Aziz Akbar Baig, and Muhammad Yasin Azad stating "Honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan has acceded to a long standing demand of the PBC to allot and hand over the wing opposite the present PBC office as well as full floor of the newly constructed block to the Pakistan Bar Councl for its office." The members said, they considered it a 'welcome decision' and meet to consider and approve invitation to the CJP to formally hand over the above premises to the PBC. It may be mentioned the PBC members, after the advent to the elected government, stand divided on accepting the status of the present CJP in the office. Over the last few months the schism has markedly widened.
