ISLAMABAD - World Tourism Day's venue has been shifted to the National Library, which was scheduled at destroyed Marriott Hotel on September 27th. The World Tourism Day was commemorated on 27 September each year by appropriate events, on the themes selected by the General Assembly, on the recommendation of WTO's Executive Council. This yeas the theme of the Day is "Tourism Responding to the Challenges of Climate". The main purpose of World Tourism Day was to foster awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic values. The Ministry of Tourism had planned to hold many events along with photo exhibition on the occasion of the World Tourism Day at Marriott Hotel. The officials of the Ministry were also fully prepared for holding the event. However, the Saturday's deadly blast at Marriott Hotel has badly effected the schedule of the event.  Prevailing circumstances forced the Ministry not only to shift the venue of the event but also compel to hold it on a very low profile. Preparation to observe World Tourism Day were in full swing, invitation cards have been distributed and presence of the prominent personalities was ensured, however, after recent blasts officials have shifted the venue of events and now they will celebrate it in a simple way, Official sources told the TheNation while seeking anonymity here on Tuesday. The sources further explained that after most devastating blast at Marriott Hotel, Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) was selected for observing the day, but still the officials were not satisfied and finally they have selected National Library. Since 1980, the World Tourism Organisation celebrates September 27 as World Tourism Day. It was established at the Third Session of the WTO General Assembly in Torremolines, Spain, in September of 1979.  September 27 was important since on that day in 1970, the Statutes of the WTO were adopted. The adoption of the statutes is considered to be a milestone in global tourism.
