LAHORE - Young Doctors Association Punjab continued protest at Lahore General Hospital on second day on Saturday against dismissal of 62 house officers. The YDA members and house officers chanted slogans against the government and demanded withdrawal of the decision.

Meanwhile, a delegation of YDA called on Health Secretary Hassan Iqbal and informed him about their reservations on dismissal of 62 house officers at LGH and cancellation of 199 paid seats of HOs in the province. The secretary assured the delegation that a summary for restoration of seats would be forwarded to the Finance Department. Spokesman of YDA Punjab, however, said that protest demonstrations would continue till written assurance from the government.

Minister chairs meeting

Provincial Minister for Health Khalil Tahir Sindhu has directed the administration of hospitals to remove garbage and drain out stagnant water from their premises within three days.

Chairing a meeting held here Saturday to review arrangements of public sector hospitals for eliminating mosquito breeding sites, he made it clear that stringent action would be taken those who failed to comply with directions. Director General Health Dr Tanvir Hussain, Incharge Chief Minister’s Dengue Research Cell Prof Wasim Akram, Dean IPH Prof Muaz Ahmad, MS Mayo Hospital Dr Zahid Pervaiz, MS Services Hospital Dr Rehana Malik, Medical Director Children Hospital Prof Ahsan Waheed Rathore, AMS Jinnah Hospital Dr Salah-ud-Din, MS Sir Ganga Ram Hospital Dr Umar Farooq Baloch, MS LGH Dr Amjad Shehzad, Administrator Sheikh Zayed Hospital Lahore Dr Akbar Hussain and MSs of other hospitals of Lahore, EDOs Health Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Sargodha and Bahawalpur attended the meeting. The participants were shown photographs of stagnant water and of garbage in various hospitals.
