ISLAMABAD  – The citizens complaint that prevailing filthy environment around the markets and absence of other facilities causing problems for visitors and shopkeepers in federal capital.

Almost all markets of federal capital in a deplorable condition for a long time due to lack of repair and maintenance work. Expressing concern over the poor condition of the markets a shopkeeper namely, Kashif Pervaiz at F-6/1 while talking to APP said that it is fact that rent of the markets’ shops has been increased by 100 per cent during the last eight years but no attention was being paid towards their maintenance.

He alleged that no repair and maintenance works had been carried in the markets for the last 30 years, adding that relevant department’s documents showed that a huge amount had been incurred in this regard. In the absence of basic necessities such as toilets, drinking water facilities, regular sweeping and a garbage disposal system has become a major problem for both shopkeepers and shoppers, a visitor Faisal Malik said.

Garbage littered in and around the markets also causes problems for visitors, he added. Moreover, the menace of encroachments around of these markets and the illegal setting up of cabins in their vicinity has not only become a nuisance for the shopkeepers and shoppers, but was also creating a hindrance in the smooth flow of vehicular traffic, visitors said.

When contacted to Capital Development Authority (CDA) official said that a proper garbage disposal system, toilets and drinking water facilities would be provided to all markets soon.
