LAHORE – Matias Vial Perez struck superb three goals to steer Colony Sugar to 8-7 thrilling victory over Army/Coke in the Bank Alfalah Aibak Polo Cup final here at the Lahore Polo Club on Sunday.

Both the teams played well in the first chukker and exhibited superb polo. Three goals were scored by Colony Sugar two each by Matias and one by Hamza Mawaz Khan while for Army/Coke, the two goals came from Manuel Crespo. At the end of the first chukker, the score was 3-2 in favour of Colony Sugar.

The second chukker also favoured Colony Sugar as Hamza Mawaz Khan and N Shaikh hit one goal each for their team while Manuel Crespo had a goal for Army/Coke finishing the chukker 5-3. The third chukker also produced same results with two goals came from Colony Sugar, one each by Matias and Saqib Khakwani while only goal came from Manuel Crespo of Army/Coke finishing the chukker 7-6.

Army/Coke bounced back in the fourth and the conclusive chukker in style and smashed three back-to-back goals one each by Raja Temur Nadeem, Abdul Rehman Monnoo and Manuel Crespo leveling the score 7-7 but at the dying moments of the match, Saqib Khakwani slammed the match-winning goal to steer Colony Sugar 8-7 thrilling victory over Army/Coke. In the subsidiary final, Diamond Paints defeated Master Paints 7-6½.

 James Harper was the hero of the day for Diamond Paints as he smashed four goals while Raja Samiullah added three in their team’s triumph. Gaston Moore played superbly and slammed four goals for his Master Paints but could not save his team to face defeat. Sufi M Haris and Ahmed Ali Tiwana had once goal each for Master Paints.
