LAHORE - PML-N President and Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has termed his meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari positive and productive hoping that one-to-one meeting would help improve the relations between PML-N and PPP. This would also help resolving the pending issues soon, he added. He stated this during a Press conference after the ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) inked between the Punjab govt and MIT University of Boston at his Defence residence here on Saturday. Shahbaz said that he conveyed to Zardari that PML-N will never ever step back from its principled stance of reinstatement of deposed judges even if we have to make any sort of sacrifice. He said solution of all problems lies in the implementation of Charter of Democracy. He stated that Punjab govt was not under any threat as it was elected by the will of the people. He said that President Asif Ali Zardari endorsed PML-N's stance regarding independence of judiciary. 'I also informed him about the party point of view regarding the reinstatement of judges, revocation of 17th Amendment and elimination of 58(2)B', he said and ,added, 'I also communicated him about the party stance that PML-N is ready to work with PPP if promises made with masses are fulfilled in true letter and spirit'. He said that deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was given official protocol by the Punjab govt, as 'we believe that he was the genuine Chief Justice of Pakistan'. He said that during the meeting with Zardari range of issues including Punjab govt were discussed at length. He dispelled the impression that PML-N was voicing for reinstatement of judges for political gains. He said 'I let Zardari know about the fact that if Charter of Democracy is not implemented, situation might be like 90s'. He said that people demanded independent, professional and God-fearing judiciary. 'It is my firm conviction that if judiciary could not gain independence, society is doomed to collapse indeed', he added. Chairman Task Force Haroon Khawaja, Additional Chief Secretary, Secretary Higher Education, Secretary Schools and other officials were present on the occasion. Secretaries Schools Nadeem Ashraf on behalf of Punjab govt and Dr. Richard Lasson on behalf of MIT University, Boston signed on the MoU.
