ISLAMABAD (APP) - Chairman Senate Mohammedmian Soomro Saturday said the national security has become a multifaceted undertaking; neither is it the pursuit of military alone nor its management is exclusive preserve of a selected few. "The effective pursuit of national security requires developing strategic framework, which encompasses all elements of national power, tangible as well as intangible," said Chairman Senate while addressing the certificate distribution ceremony of 9th National Security Workshop titled, "Seeing beyond perceptions" organised by National Defence University here. Congratulating the participants, comprising parliamentarians, businessmen, media persons, bureaucrats and chiefs of different organisations, Soomro said such interactive sessions play a remarkable role to create understanding on economic, social, political scenarios as well as cast positive impacts on intelligence and character building. He said in this versatile world, everything is interdependent and country needs a proper social networking to quash misunderstandings about Pakistan and rectify its image across the world. "Such session, no doubt, give a chance to learn and disseminate what the facts are," Chairman Senate said, adding that all sections of society should step ahead including women, media, businessmen and politicians to play their respective roles for progress and prosperity of the country," urged Mohammedmian Soomro. He said it is our duty to encourage women to step in all fields including technical education, politics and others, also urging the business community to do whatever in the interest of the country and focus on short and long term plans for country's development. "Through a process of debate, dialogue and sustained interaction, these workshops would pave way for developing consensus response on key issues and challenges facing our country," said chairman Senate. He said democratic governance is indispensable for sustained and steady progress of any country. "Good governance in other words means informed, speedy and judicious decision-making. One reason why we have lagged behind in critical sphere is that our decision-making polity lacks an informed perspective on the issues and challenges it faces," he said. The chairman said it is not only high time to work towards national security and good governance but it is also the right time to redouble efforts to elevate the image of Pakistan and its citizens. Later, the chief guest distributed certificates among the participants of the workshop, which also followed the presentation on souvenir by President National Defence University Lt. General Hamid Khan to the chief guest. Earlier, President of the University, in his opening remarks, welcomed the guests and said five-week workshop helped a lot to learn from the experiences and thought of experts and each other's about national security and statecraft. Highlighting the salient features of the workshop, he said such interactions encourage self-education and help turn the challenges into opportunities, and described the concluding workshop as "one of the best workshops." held by the NDU.
