islamabad - The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to take action against the officials of Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) who had knowingly connived at the encroachment of use of state land by management of Serena Hotel for years, The Nation has learnt reliably.

The CDA a few weeks back in a major crackdown removed heavy containers, barriers, obstacles, fencing etc erected by the hotel management on state land adjacent to the hotel in the name of security measures. The public passages were cleared in compliance with the orders of deputy speaker national assembly dated December 16, 2015. The action to retrieve the land followed a lengthy correspondence between CDA and management of the hotel on the issue and several notices to which the management did not respond positively.

According to the sources in the CDA, director municipal administration, director urban planning and director traffic engineering have been asked to fix responsibility and identify the officials who facilitated/allowed the hotel management in encroaching upon the state land which later used it for extending its commercial activities for the last many years without entering into any lease agreement with CDA, causing thereby loss of millions of rupees to the national exchequer. The hotel management used the encroached land for general car parking through installation of barriers.

The CDA high-ups have now decided that the matter be inquired at the director level and the officials responsible be brought to justice for criminal negligence on their part over a decade. All the three directorates have been directed against such recurrence of parking area for free/private usage in future unless and until the CDA land is given under proper lease agreement within the meanings of applicable rules and regulations.
