Scores of brick-kiln workers staged a protest here in Kamalia, demanding wages as per government fixed rate, the other day.

Addressing the protesting kiln workers, Bhatta Mazdoor Union leader Baba Latif claimed that kiln owners are not paying government’s fixed wages of Rs962 per 1,000 bricks. He expressed concern that the administration is not serious about the issue and seems reluctant to move against the owners. He also demanded implementation of government’s announced incentive of paying Rs1,000 to every school-going child and Rs2000 to their parents to discourage the child labour at kilns. He announced that if demands of the brick-kiln workers are not accepted, they would stage sit-in outside Faisalabad commissioner’s office.
