Two injured for resistance during robbery bid

RAWALPINDI: At least two people were wounded as robbers opened firing during a robbery attempt in a village near Chaklala in jurisdiction of Airport Police Station on Tuesday night.

According to details, five robbers broke into a house to commit robbery in a village near Chaklala but the family members offered resistance upon which the robbers opened firing on them and wounded two people.

Residents of the area gathered after hearing the gunshots upon which the robbers tried to flee from the scene. The residents chased the fleeing robbers and caught one of them. The angry residents subjected the robber to thrashing and handed him over to the police later. Rescue teams also reached the spot and shifted the injured to Benazir Bhutto Hospital.–APP


Meter reader suspended


RAWALPINDI: The Sub-Engineer of Islamabad Electricity Supply Company suspended a meter reader for alleged misconduct and misbehaviour with seniors, sources said on Wednesday.

The meter reader, identified as Khalid Mehmood, was deputed at IESCO Sub-Division Saddar, they said.

According to the sources, the sub-engineer Umar Farooq placed the meter reader under suspension after he allegedly misbehaved with SDO Sajid Hanif on January 18 and also refused to impart his duty in the area.

They said that the meter reader also used abusive language against the SDO and tried to assault him physically. However, other staffers came forward and rescued the SDO, the sources said.

The matter was brought into the notice of the SE by the SDO who launched inquiry into the incident. The inquiry committee declared the meter reader guilty and recommended departmental action against him. The SE, in light of the inquiry report, suspended the meter reader Khalid Mehmood.

Umar Farooq while talking to The Nation confirmed suspension of the meter reader on charges of misconduct and misbehaviour with seniors. He said that the meter reader was also involved in misbehaving with many of his colleagues.–Staff Reporter
